This morning we woke up to rolling seas and dark clouds and headed out due east for more than an hour and began trolling our Chicken flies in the hopes of locating a large group of Dorado to cast to. After about 10 minutes a nice Marlin nipped at my pink Chicken fly, then it decided to go after my partner’s Baby Dorado colored Chicken fly. We got that little beauty (maybe about 50 pounds) right up to the boat and he came off, but we thought that was a perfect ending for fisherman and fish alike. We continued trolling, picking the fish off one and two at a time, while all the other pangas were searching for a large pack of Dorado we knew were in the vicinity. Our boat moved to another area where we started trolling and found the big pack, but we soon discovered this pack was battle worn and jaded, so we contacted the other pangas and about 20 of them made their way over to our spot and we moved again to look for fresh victims. We did find another smaller pack after trolling for about 20 minutes and we caught about a dozen, and then those fish went down also, so we decided to go back to the original pack to see if we could pick off a few more. We got about six more and called it a day, with one Marlin and about 30 netted Dorado to our credit. The fish seemed more aggressive today, we think because of all the bait in the water.
