When I was fishing up at the Yuba last week, I came across this piece of burl ( I guess) that was laying on a gravel bar in the river. It had apparently been caught in a wash somewhere, and had a finish to it that looked like it had been sanded with 320 grit sandpaper. I thought the wood looked pretty cool, so at the end of the day I hoofed it back to the Jeep with me and took it home. The wood is about 3' long to put it in perspective.
I took it to work and put 1 coat of vinyl sanding sealer, then 4 top coats of semi-gloss lacquer on it to bring out the color. Here is the beauty that this thing turned into . . .

Now I have to figure out what I make this thing into, if anything else. Maybe I'll crack a brew and ponder this some more . . .
