So I came up on a couple of squirrel pelts and was thinking of trying to make some custom dubbing blends with them. Does anyone have any experience dying fur? I'm not really sure how to go about it and what I found on the internet is kinda vague.

We use to do a little dying back in the day.

The fur, hair or feathers you want to dye will have to be white or bleached white to get bright brilliant colors.

If the products is natural colors you will only be able to get a subdued color which can be nice thought.

It is much like the beauty operators do to lady's hair.

You have to degrease it first.

Soak it in water to get the dye to penetrate evenly.

Get some Rite or Veniyard dye.

Boil water with dye.

Turn it off and put in the product.

You can take it out and blow dry it to see what you have.

I think we use to use vinegar to set the colors.

You should be able to find some Youtube videos on dying?

Here's another dye I tried on Ralph Cutters suggestion. jacquard acid dye. I bought mine via Amazon.
I found water temperature will have a great effect of colors. I used my outdoor bar b que grill.
I added the vinegar right in the solution.
Most important is too degrease the hide, hair or feathers really good. I used Dawn liquid dish soap and luke warm water

Good luck
