I'm looking for some T6 material to make a couple light sink tips. I am only able to find T8 as the lightest but I have heard of T6 being availible before. Any chance someone knows where I could get some level material or perhaps welded/looped tips?

T-8 = 6-7 ips (20lb)
T-11 = 7-8 ips (20lb)
T-14 = 8-9 ips (30lb)
T-17 = 9-10 ips (30lb)
T-20 = 10+ ips (30lb)

This is all I could find on the Rio web site......?

Not sure they make T-6?

Not sure about T-6, however, Airflo has T-7 available

I've come across posts on various forums in the past that talk about using T6 for tips but they're all a few years old. I imagine things have changed since then.

I assume that you are building something @10 feet...that would only be a 10 grain difference. A business card weighs twice that amount. I wouldn't worry about it. My2 cents worth.

Actually I'm wanting to build 5' and 7' tips for a 150 gr OPST Commando head that will be on a 3wt single hand rod.

Could you get by using a 7' 5ips versileader instead?

I thought about it but I might need more mass to turn over some streamers.

I use the 7' trout versileader on my 6wt (single hand) for streamer fishing a lot. It isn't the best for the really BIG stuff, but for a certain sculpin pattern you gave me I can attest that it turns over no problem. You can get versileaders that sink faster than that too (I think mine was 8ips?).

Jason,

Glad to hear you're fishing that old thing I gave you. Remind me next time to give you the new updated one. The Sculpin 2.0! lol

I'll give that versaleader a try as well and see how it works out. Thanks for the input!

Gary I was thinking a little more about that. We can try my versileader replacement tips for the Scandi body, there density compensated and should turn over bigger stuff for you. I have the #7 which are 75 grains , it will be more expensive to go that route so I think it might be cheaper to just get Steve's Z-7 material and chop it to various lengths and weld loops. And by the way don't be poachin my Sculpin pattern

Lets give those Versaleaders a try and see how they turn over some micro meat.

By the way, just because we use the same hooks, same feathers, same dubbing, same colors, same number of wraps and same thread doesn't mean its still your pattern if it's tied by my hand... Or am I missing the concept???

Don't know if this helps, but here are some T6 prebuilt leaders on ebay:
