If you are planning a trip to Christmas Is. in the next few weeks you should probably call you booking agent IF you where planning on staying at the Villages.

Monday (2/13/2017) on the way to our boat we saw smoke and fire coming into the air. Lots of people just standing in the school or church lot watching the fire. As we got closer we could see it was the Village's main building and kitchen /bar that were erupting. All thatch and palm roofs were a torch.

Nothing anyone could do as there is no fire dept. or water system adequate for using a hose, and I don't think there's a hose anywhere there either.

When we came back from fishing that same day, they already had a tractor and grader there starting to clean up. Our guides were very sure they'd be back up and operating in a few weeks.

Hey Tony, that is a bummer, hope the fishing was on fire. Give us a report when you can, Don

From the Australian Agent...
"Yep there was a fire but as we speak things are in the process of being sorted. A makeshift kitchen has been arranged as has refrigeration so everything is running as per usual. I'm sure that things will move forward fairly rapidly as they already are.Damage was in the kitchen, dining area and reception area, all cabins remain unaffected as does the fishing etc. so for those heading in shortly or thinking of heading over in the not to distant future we'd just like to assure you that it's business as usual."

The latest from the Australian Agent...
The rental house is setup as a temporary kitchen complete with new stoves and refrigeration. Reception has taken over accommodation room 12 and the dining room set up in the new meeting area. None of the accommodation rooms, dive hut, water and electricity supplies were affected.Business as usual.....fire on Monday night and more guests arrived on Wednesday afternoon. They get things done when the community works together. The manager has said that the new kitchen and dining room will completed within a month.....must be like a swarm of ants. For all those visiting the villages nothing has changed. You will still receive the same friendly service and great accommodation right on the water.
