..........might be good.

With the flow going up to 35,000 cfs and soon to be down to 5,000 cfs by the 29th it could be good for the Steelhead opener on January 1st?

Who is planning on going?

Bill, I plan on hitting the Truckee later this week because it will be warming up and flows are damn near perfect at 450+ CFS in canyon. We are pretty lucky to have so many options.... As for the AR I will try it out a few days after the opener but I plan on investing more time this year than in the past. I'm optimistic this influx of water and an overall better winter thus far will help push up some nice fish. I think that process is currently in the works. Plus at 5k CFS you aren't going to have snaggers out there enjoying the days of 1200 or so. Drift boaters should really be licking there chops. Going to be able to cover a lot of water at those flows.

I have a chance of getting out several times between Thursday and Sunday. I'll post up any observations. I will be around the Arden ponds area until the opener, after that, I'm not sure if I should go up stream...

"Just remember boys and girls... just because you're swinging a fly does NOT mean you are NOT flossing or long lining!"

Interesting comment from a guy who confirms/declares he's a low holer.... Pot calling the kettle black??? ;)

Don't worry Darian I low-hole quickly then float on. I never low-hole and camp out that's just bad form.

Should be quite a circus out there. Almost better entertainment that money can buy. Post some stories. I'm betting somebody will be wading in jeans. Be careful though. 5k will kill you quickly.

All jokes aside you raise a good point 5k is swift. I'll probably be wearing a PFD along w/ having throw bags out and ready!

Here's a funny story I thought I would share what happened about the same time of year roughly 15 years ago - remember it like it was yesterday. I was about 1/4 to a 1/2 mile below Illinois Ave. when you could drive out on the cobble (maybe you still can). A guy in a newer small Ranger PU drove out on the cobble and got stuck and I was fishing the riffle minding my own business. About 45 minutes later an old Toyota 4x4 came by (early 80's short bed with at least 33"s). The Toyota guy said he would help him out, I came over to assist. Caveat - the Toyota was roughly 5' above the Ranger on loose cobble. I came over and helped install the tow rope, etc. When it was time to go the Toyota driver was bumping the stereo and they said 'hit it' he was tossing 4"-12" cobble on the Ranger. Damaged the hood and broke his windshield. Minor Tyson vs Buster Douglas fight ensued and watched in awe. Caught no steelhead that day but have a memory for a lifetime!!

I never fish openers. Too many stupid people out that day.

And low-holers are jerks! I've had so many boats pull up and do that to me. I don't care if your there for a second. Don't be a jerk and go fish somewhere else.

It is really bad with guides during shad season. They think they own the damn river. I don't care if you have to put your client on fish, stay away from me.

And the worst offenders are old men in boats!

Say,
Looks like steelhead time in the steelhead forum. If this is the tone online, far from prime holes and hot fish, I can't help but wonder what things will be like on the water? I will not be joining the circus, though I would love to take the boat out for a float while the flows are still this nice. I agree that there are some much better places to fish; just a bit further away there are some nice steelies being caught on other rivers right now too. Just none by me...
