The Pyramid Fly Co. Boys have been poking some big ones this week. Here is Brendan with a 24.5# cutt from Wednesday.

Bill I would guess they are already swimming around in the lake.
Last year guide Arlo Townsend got one around 28lbs.
Numerous fish in the high 20's have been brought into Crosbys lodge as well last year.
This year they have a catch and release board for fish over 10lbs.

These are probably fish from the original Pyramid Lake strain. They have been reintroduced into the lake. The lake population died off when Derby Dam was built. The Pyramid Lake record was more than 40 lbs. with the original lake strain. The original strain was found in a small creek on Pilot Peak where they had been planted in the 1920s. This is one of the mostly unknown great stories of fish and game conservation.

I read about that also. The lahontan (?) Cutthroat. I also read it was very very lucky timing because soon after they found and trapped them the area suffered a pretty bad wildfire that supposedly killed the fish in that creek.

Unfortunately Pyramid lake is closed........and big or small ones are all safe.
