Anyone try the Feather river lately

Went up to the Feather about a mile below the afterbay last Friday and the place was deserted. Got my boots wet for about an hour in between rain showers before a gear malfunction ended my day. One good tug from what I thought was a 1/2 pounder but that was it.

Novice when it comes to fishing steelies but shouldn't there be fish in the river at this time

I was out there two weeks ago with a friend and he landed two. I'm new to this as well so I didn't have much luck.

Jack and I went to the Feather yesterday, the 4th. Fished two runs in the high flow and three in the low flow (Matthews, Upper and Lower Outhouse). We were both swinging and nymphing. Total catch one 11" trout/baby Steelhead and one 3-4 lb Sacramento Sucker. Lots of spawning salmon. Beautiful day.
