A friend wants take his 2 young kids fishing in or close to SF.

Idea is for them to catch or have decent chance catching something preferably somewhere pleasant.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks
Steve

If you Google pier fishing in San Francisco, you'll find a bunch of places to fish off piers in the area. Is Lake Merced still a place where kids can fish???

In the eastbay there are several lakes go to (http://www.ebparks.org/activities/fishing)
Eleven Lakes in the East Bay Park District.

Also Orinda has San Pablo Reservoir, and Lafayette has Lafayette reservoir.

There is also a small stocked pond in Walnut Creek at Heather Farms park.

Those are probably the most kid friendly places...

Jacksmelt from a pier is a hoot.....they fight like rainbows. Top 3' of the water column generally and #10 hooks generally.

I'm with Lee on the piers and jack smelt. I remember fishing the piers right at Fisherman's wharf and catching perch and shiners. Fish as close to the pilings as you can. Even a hand line and a small piece of squid will do the trick.
