We call this the "second season" in the fishing tackle world.

There will be a ton of good days had by those who go.

Come into the shop and ask the staff where they are going.

After 50 years of being around this fishing business, getting to fish with some of the best anglers and top guides, I can give you good ideas where to go and when.

Hiring a recommended fly fishing guide is also a great way to increase you odds and learn for techniques.

Stripers will be good in the Delta.

Many mid-elevation trout lakes will be fishing well.

Most of the larger mid-elevation trout stream will be good too.

Fall Steelheading is the choice of many with most using two handed rods now.

Some areas will be good for salmon, especially the Klamath, Trinity, Rogue, Eel, Smith and Chetco Rivers.

This is all dependent on rain and regulations.

September can still be warm so early and late seems to be a good plan.

October the days are shorter and it is usually cooler so it can be good during the daytime too.

November is when we go from Fall to Winter with the cooling of the air and water.

Winter = Dec/Jan/Feb is when it gets cold but there is still fly fishing for the hearty.

Pyramid Lake for big Cutthroat trout.

Eagle Lake for big Rainbow trout.

Winter Steelhead for the hearty

Lower elevation Valley lakes and reservoirs for trout can be good.

Some might go south to the Tropics

Others might venture to Argentina, Chile and/or New Zealand for their summer and big trout.

Other will get going on needed fly tying and maybe rod building.
