Does anyone fish the Moke for steelhead? I have a drift boat that we take on the Sac and the Yuba. Just wondering if I can get down the Moke in a Hyde? Thinking of going in February ?

have never seen anyone in a drift boat . In a kayak?? yes
and the take out is in Clements Ca for most . might be tough challenge in a drift boat. its a narrow river that comes out of Comanche and goes into lodi and the Rio-vista. maybe a kayak will do you better or you can rent one for the weekend at headwaters kayak in lodi and check yourself....I can be wrong ???

Lots of guys have started threads on fishing the lower Moke, Myself included, and have only gotten crickets in return. Nobody is willing to speak of the fishing down there on the public forum... I will tell you however that last year, I called the hatchery to see if they had a fishcount for Steelies that made it to the hatchery. The guy I spoke with said that for the entire season, they counted 2 steelhead that went through the video station (forget the proper name of the contraption) in lodi... I decided not to head down there after finding that out. Good luck if you end up making a trip. I've heard that kayaks and pontoons are better fit for that River than rafts and drift boats.

In a decent year the Moke only gets about 200 hatchery Steelhead returning, with multiple dry years I do not expect a big return some years there are none. IMO it is best to leave them be as there is not really enough fish to target them. There are definitely better and more responsible places to fish for Steelhead in CA.
