Aloha, went camping at kahuku ranch for 4 days. Remote beach on a 4x4 road of lava.

This is our camp site. We also have a tide pool with brackish water to cool off.

I fished this spot and got a nice papio.

I used a spin rod, the wind was pretty strong. I did get some moi and taape and a big nenue on the fly. The nenue ate when two big omilu came by and I thought I had come tight on the larger fish, only to hook the nenue. It still put up a god fight on the 8wt.

This is my favorite point to fish.

The surf was fun! Still have sand in my scalp.

Then went offshore yesterday and got some ahi, 15 fish to 30lbs. Lots of sashimi. Hope you are all enjoying summer, Mems.

That is awesome Don. Four days of those views are good for the soul.
Very peaceful.

How far of a drive is that from where you live?

Hey Eric, it is 1 1/2 hours from my house to the turn off at ocean view estates, then it is another 1 1/2 4x4 down the trail to the beach. There are a number of famous GT fishing spots there and some cool beaches for fishing, surfing and diving. The ponds there are also very stunning. The big bummer in Hawaii and on the Big Island is the camping sites run by the state and county are overrun by homeless and rampant drug use. It is a shame the beaches I used to camp at are no ruined. I wish they would be maintained like camps on the mainland with a retired couple as caretakers. This would ensure safe camping and more use by local taxpayers, not visiting tourists and homeless. This site is private and has a contentious history. We are lucky to get to go there as often as we do.

This is the Queen's bath, a favorite spot to jump into on a hot day. Don

Those big pools are awesome. That is cool to be so close to that scenery
and camping by the ocean.

Oh i had no idea GT's were around Hawaii. Guess because I always see them
on Christmas Island reports.

That is too bad when nice spots get ruined. I know at the Klamath where I go
every year, they have caretaker's in small RVs managing the place. Especially
during prime season.

Cool report Don, thanks for sharing.

Eric
