This is legendary Nor Cal fly fishing guide Fred Gordon wading the new Pit River.
Fred fishes the river for the CA D F & W for stream surveys catching about 70 fish per day.
He says it appears deeper because the bottom is dark and the water has suspended matter.
Fred says just get out in it and it is OK.

At 71 I no longer can fish that great river at the new higher flows.
We fished it in Sept/Oct every fall usually wet wading and swimming some.
I am not complaining because I fly fished that river for about 50 years with my brother and some of my dearest friends.
You young studs can fish it though.....
