Second Day on the water

Second day on the water, a little better than yesterday. Arrived at Bahia de Los Murertos at 6am. Efren was already to go. I jumped in the boat and we were off. First stop, Cerralvo Island Sur. We had to try for the wahoo but didn't plan on staying long. We got there around 7am and starting trolling for the wahoo. It wasn't long before the reel started scream'n. Oh boy a HOO, Efren burst the bubble, just a skip jack, DAMN I had enough of those yesterday. Back in the water the Rapala's went. Ten minutes later, BAM the reel was scream'n and line was peeling off like it was a wahoo. Efren pulled the rod out of the rod holder, hell I couldn't even budge it. He let the fish run more and said possibly a skip jack. S***. He wound about 70 yards of line in and I saw color, damn another skip jack.
Efren pulled the fish up and said "white bonita", good eating for sashimi. First thing he did was cut the gills and bleed the fish.
It was around 9am and the West wind started to blow so we decided to crank up the Rapala's and head to Ranchito.
We needed bait so Efren pulled out the net and started throwing for the bait. It was a little overcast so it was hard to see the bait. But when the sun came out the bait seemed to show up and on the surface. What a difference the sun makes.
With a little bait in the well we went searching for some Roo's. First stop, the roosters came to play. It took 4 casts and I was hooked up. Landed the fish, tagged and released it. My second cast I was into a rooster again. This time without a bait. It was great to see the fish follow the fly, eat and the line come tight. DANG, he ate the ballyhoo fly.
Needed more bait so off we went in search for more ballyhoo. It wasn't long before we saw a bunch break the surface. Efren gave me the little head shake to go that way. I've learned over the years what each movement of the head and hands mean. It didn't take long before we had enough bait to start fishing. We found more bait today then we did yesterday. What a difference a day makes and the sun.
OH, I almost for got I was around 97 pounds short. Some of you will know and understand

I forgot to add…last week there were a bunch of roosters in the 25lb to 40lb range that were caught. One wahoo and a couple "chicken" dorado. Things are looking up

Glad to hear the fishing is heating up and you're finding bait.

Very cool you're tagging roosters. Can you give us a summary of who's running that program, who's capturing the data and recapture data, etc? I've not heard anything about it.

This is a company located in Pampano Beach, FL. They are keeping the records. When you tag a fish, you take the information and fill out the card that they send with the tags. I the past, we have been tagging fish but that kinda went by the far side. This outfit doesn't charge for the tags. I think you get 10 tags per unit.
All they do is ask for donations, which I'm happy to send them as long as they keep up the records
