With the water temp at 62 degree's we didn't catch any trout, the bass spawning is about over, and the bluegill and sunfish are ready to spawn. It was one of those beautiful day's for fishing, warm temperatures, light winds, and good friends to enjoy a couple of hours of fishing. We were hoping to find some trout, but with the warm surface water the trout were down deeper, the small male bass, bluegill, sunfish, kept us in action.
On the previous post about bluegill flies i seen a lot of nice floating flies for top water fishing.....here's something to think about..... I like to use a small floating fly on a sinking fly line with a 3-4 ft. of leader, you can cast or troll this very slowly, the sinking line will lay on top of the weed beds and the fly will be floating just above the weeds. Also this is a great way to fish for bass that are on the nests, i just use a bigger fly that has a GOOD weed guard like a tadpole popcorn beetle.....a very slow retrieve with lots of pause's should work.

Great pics. What sink rate line would you suggest for this technique?

Corky......Any sink rate will work, i like to use a intermediate camo it does't seem to spook the fish that much. If i'm fishing in deep water 6-20 ft. i will use a fast sink rate to get the fly down and keep it down on the bottom. The wind and waves are your friend in this style of fishing the waves will make the fly dance around.
Sometimes there not much of a grab because your moving the fly so slow, it will feel like your hung up on something and its following along......keep a good grip on your rod when you feel this.

This time of the year I use an intermediate and a type 3 or 4. Plus a floater for top water. Last Saturday I ended the day with 28 fish total. Needless to say I love Seco and fish it a lot, I have an annual pass.

Black wiggle tail in a size 8 is my go to fly.

Bass, bluegill, and trout. I've still yet to get a crappie this year there.
