I am interested in knowing what you guys are using for a streamer line. Want to dedicate a 6wt rod for such. Floater, sink tip or full sink? Any specific line recommendation appreciated as well. Rio OBS?
Thanks. Stu

I use a rio versileader sink tip attachment to floating line on the truckee. With a weighted sculpin pattern it seems to get down deep enough. I've been toying with a dedicated streamer rod as well. I think with the truckee at normal flows a 6wt is the right choice. (Normal I mean +500 CFS and most likely 800-900 all spring). You could probably get away with a 5wt rocket like the method or bolt.
Don't be shy on tippet. 0x-2x

Unweighted streamers with a Rio StreamerTip line 6wt, 10' clear tip line.

Of course you can use a floating line with an AirFlo clear intermediate poly leader. If your rod really doesn't like Rio's grossly overweight lines this may be a better choice.

Rio Short Scandi body with Rio 10' tips... int, type 3, or type 6.

Intergrated Ambush with Airflo poly leaders.

I use a fast sinking rio streamer tip. If fishing the banks the fish hit before the fly hardly sinks. If the fish are higher in the water column I'll use a more buoyant fly on the same line. My brain is not wired right to have a bunch of choices.

I usually have a 7.5-10' length of t-8 or t-11 with loops on both ends coiled in my vest. Just loop it onto the end of your fly line and instant high speed sink tip. Add maybe 5 feet of 0x for a leader. Easy Peazy.
