Tough providing the artistic photos, but here is some fish porn. Hopefully, these qualify as stream side photos. These were caught on coastal rivers. I'll try to add some local color next time.

The rhythms of a Nor Cal watershed move me beyond belief, and the weather on this day was way too nice.

John Sv, I can't identify, but looks like the Rapidan or similar stream in Virginia.

Curious to find out.

Nice!
The bench and memorial are on Big Hunting, the others are White Oak Canyon Creek and Laurel Prong of the Radian.

Yeah it is. We tried fishing the SF American, then started doing a bit of exploring since we weren't catching anything.

Hey Don,

What is the size limit you can land on that 1/2 wt TFO? I know you get some decent fish
when you go to Montana....you're not under-gunned??

I'm headed to Missoula area this July for 1.5 weeks with my wife...just to fish the local rivers
like the NF Blackfoot, Rock creek perhaps, a few others. Thinking about what rods to bring
as I have 2 thru 5 wts, although a couple are noodles.

Hey Eric, I use the 1/2 wt on feeder creeks like skalkahao and the bluejoint. You mostly catch small westslope cutts like this one. My largest fish was a 16inch cuttie on the 1/2 wt and it was like getting an ahi on conventional. I had to run down stream and land it in slower water, and that can be tough to find on a small creek. For streams like Rock creek and the blackfoot I wold use a 4 or 5wt. You have lots of room to cast there. On the brushy little creeks the 1/2 wt is ideal. I don't really like tenkara, and the tight spaces would make that tough as well. The little TFO is awesome for roll casting or bow and arrow under brush. It also packs down to nothing for hiking into remote spots. Have fun the water should be good in July, make sure you have some purple hazes.

"it was like getting an ahi on conventional."

I can only imagine! About 20 years ago I had a 12" rainbow take me 50 yds downstream on the NF Yuba.
I was using a 6'6" Orvis 1 wt full flex. It was epic! Unfortunately, UPS lost the rod when I sent it back
to get the tip repaired.

I will be tying a bunch of purple haze flies for the trip. Thanks for the rod recommendations.
