It is a famous winter fishery.

Most use light rods with tiny nymphs.

It has a low flow in the winter.

They have good regs on it now and have been working on it.

Anyone been over there?

Hello Bill,

things seem to be getting better slowly but surely. We are seeing an increase in small fish (8to12") but not a lot of larger fish. All the fish seem very healthy as well. We definitely need a good flushing of the creek though as there is a lot of silt. I am concerned about heavy flooding rains this year (el Nino) because of the fire damage on the south side of the creek. The entire watershed was completely scorched and I'm worried about erosion and silt choking out putah and lake solano. How has retirement been treating you?

Greg

Thanks for the heads up Greg

Veteran Putah Creek guide Greg Bonovich is very involved in the drainage and has a good feel for it's condition.

Fished it Saturday for a few hours. No large fish, all small, 6-10 inch. Place feels different than it used to, and the snails are everywhere.

Spent the Summer and Fall guiding the creek; here is my two cents.... www.rrflyfishing.blogspot.com

Putah is an amazing place! Much thanks to all that have provided effort towards its restoration...

Any thoughts on avoiding it completely during the winter spawning months?
