Went camping last weekend on a remote beach on the big island with family and friends for Thanksgiving weekend. It is a 2 hour 4x4 trail down to the ocean. Great diving, fishing and good times. We got lobster every day and caught fish and had a feast every night.

Luke and I went fly fishing on friday and we got a nice stringer of papio, moana and moana kali and some taape. Luke got the larger papio. I had a 15lb omilu hit and break me off.

I was able to get a small bonefish dunking some shrimp.

Not a big one, but still a bone, this is actually a pretty rare catch, a knife jaw bonefish.

Some nice sunsets, Ala is doing her best modelo comercial.

Joy and Luke hiked with some friends to a cool spot called the Queen's bath. Luke likes to jump off cliffs and even got Joy to take a leap. I had to stay back at the camp site. I had a kidney stone hit on friday after the bonefish. The rest of my weekend was hell. It is a pretty painful experience passing a stone. Luckily my doctor was camping with us and I tried to take it easy. Next day was my birthday and I did catch another moana kali in between spasms.

Queen's bath is pretty awesome. The diving was awesome. My friends went on a night dive and got 16 bugs in the 3-6lb range.
One of my X-soccer players speared a 70lb ulua, that bent his shaft in a right angle. That was Jimmy's biggest ulua yet.

It was a great time for everyone but me. We drove out on sunday, and monday I was in the hospital on morphine. I am back in school waiting for the stone to pass. My family and friends were great and I am glad they had a god time. I would not wish a kidney stone on anyone. Hope you all had a good turkey day, Mems

Heh heh, when I saw the title I had to check out this post. You see I spent many a night "camping out" in the Kahuku's back between 1976 and 1979. The only difference was my camping partners were members of the 25th Infantry Division. Although there was the night we were operating under blackout conditions in driving rain and we came within 3 feet of driving our 5 ton dump truck off a 180 foot high cliff. And the early morning recon patrol way off the beaten path when we came under live fire from a couple of pakalolo farmers up a valley. My trips weren't nearly as much fun as yours.

I spent some time with the 25th infantry division but it wasn't in Hawaii. It was in the Tay Ninh and Bien Hoa in early '68 flying for the 25th Infantry Division "little bear". This was during the TET offensive. We were actually head quarters in Saigon. My main outfit was the 101st Airborne. I went into country with them but later transferred the 25th for 6 months.
My good ole days of growing up. I was a 20 year old "hell raiser"

If I remember right, a group from 3/4 Cav were our helo jockeys. A guy I shared a house with on the north shore was a helicopter pilot with them. The air force guys took the cake though. Whenever we went on a combined arms exercise, those guys would bring lawn chairs and coolers and stuff into the field. The Army guys would be all dirty with camo make-up and all and the Air Force guys would be sitting there in flower shirts.

Hey Mems, not the hell raiser I use to be. I'm lucky that I made it this far in life. I had a mean streak when I was younger, that's why I quit drinking at 23. I don't think my body could take what I did back when I was 20 or even 30.
But a pussy cat, never. I just sit back and take it one day at a time.
As a matter of fact, I'm flying to Florida tomorrow to do some playing. I'll be tying flys at the Renzetti's Fly Fair and Rod Building show. I'll be rubbing elbows with guys like Lefty, Bob Clouser, Bob Popovics, Filp Pallot, Jon Cave, Nick Curcione, Brian and Sarah Gardner, Pat Ehlers and a few more. It's a fund raiser for Casting for Recovery and Project Healing Waters. I did the first two shows that the Renzetti's had and now it's even bigger. This is the fifth year.
I'll post some photo's on my face book page when I get back home on Tuesday.
Phil, have fun catching the reds with Vernon and Steve
