View Full Version : Trinity Last Weekend

My son and I fished the Trinity last Saturday and Sunday. We had planned to fish the section through Junction City, but the guide boats were out in force, and that was their section of choice. Fortunately, with the inflatable kayak, we can get onto just about any section of the river. I operate the kayak, my son fishes (sort of like being a guide, but not getting paid for it!).
Over the two days of fishing, Kevin hooked six steelhead and netted/released four. Of the six fish, four were in the 20-23 inch range.
The fish were really spread out in the river, with no consistent locations. We didn't find any pods of fish. Just singles. Fly choice also seemed somewhat arbitrary, with only the egg patterns not working.

Sounds like a great time! Even if you guys didn't catch any fish, that father and son time is priceless! Glad you two were able to find some nice fish and have a good time together.

Thanks for the very nice report with photos......
I would get up there ASAP before the water gets too cold.

Now when you say "WHOSE YOUR DADDY?" people on the river will start answering...
"YOU PLEASE!"

Awesome. Never having fished the Trinity and likely to be in the same situation with the portable Scadden raft, what section(s) did you end of drifting? Thanks

On Saturday we drifted from Evans Bar down to Sky Walker Road. About six miles. Since we like to get out and fish the gravel bars, we average about a mile/hour. On Sunday we fished the canyon, from Dutton Creek to Evans Bar. We had two cars, so were able to handle the shuttle. Gold Coast Shuttle does provide shuttle service for the area, but right now their website is showing as infected. Normally they have a great website that lists the various drifts and distances.

That Golden Stone is my go-to fly on the T. Two weeks ago I couldn't get a hit on it in 5 days, 2 adults on small intruders, 1/2 lb'ers on skated Muddler. Go figure. Four for Six in two days is better than most, including guides were doing. Sounds like a great trip.
