Took this pretty 25" wild male on the swing.

Would this be a summer fish, or an early winter? Just wondering. Good looking fish!

Without question it is a summer/fall fish. We usually do not see winter fish in the Middle Rogue until mid January.

Must be great to live close to a river that has steelhead most of the year. I live less than a 1/4 mile from the snake River in Idaho. I feel privileged, to be sure, but to be able to swing a fly for a Bright Steelie, well that's as good as it gets. You're lucky man!

I was in the area the first two weeks of October looking at real estate. I really like the area. Couldn't get a fish on but still like the river. I'd move there in a heartbeat, just got to get the wife to the same point. I think she's scared I'll spend all my time fishing. like I don't do that already!

I did a ton of due diligence 14 years ago before I moved. Still happy with the decision. Would stay within a 15 mile radius of Grants Pass

I like Rogue River. Far enough from the 'Busy' of Grants Pass but close enough to get to the good shopping. Gold Hill at the outside. Shady Cove was cute but to far out. Of concern is the prospect of having to learn new water. I mean I'm 66 years young. It took me 20 years to get comfortable with the South Fork. Another twenty and I'll be fishing from a recliner I suspect. Already afraid to wade in water over my hips. I even wear one of those suspenders life vest things that inflates if I fall. I can still handle a drift boat but one good day and it takes me a week to recover. I need nice gravel bars, small cobble and easy water. A short walk to the river would be nice too. I think I still know how to get the fish although tying a fly on to anything smaller than 3x can be a challenge. Oh well, enough about getting old, I still want to move to southern Oregon!
