Been waiting for the Lower Yuba to click back on, and looks like it finally has. Pretty sure I hooked into a salmon by accident, but was on a 4wt so that didn't last long. Thought I was snagged for a sec until a monster head shake and quick turn into the faster water and was done. Didn't see any salmon other than that possible one, and nothing hooked up on eggs, so thinking too early for the egg bite still. Water is on the low side, but not terrible. Makes accessing the deeper middle runs a bit easier, and water temps were about 60 in the afternoon.

Usual suspects were hitting: copper johns, bird's nests, pat's rubberlegs. Definitely plenty of stoneflies crawling around the banks. Reaching across the river on a 4wt with an indo rig was a bit of a challenge, but all felt like beasts when they hooked up and the rod doubled over.

Side note, if you haven't tried the new screw top thingamabobers or whatever they're called, they're definitely the business. Super easy to adjust, no line kink. Only lost one to poor threading, otherwise they're a pretty solid design I think.

Greg, good info. I don't fish that much with Indo's anymore but I've used that screw on thingabobber and really like it as well. Fly Fishing Specialities has a bowl on there retail counter. No egg bite yet? Must be a few weeks away. Does the Yuba typically go off like lower sac with eggs?

Thanks for the report. Nice fish and sweet ink!!

I love those new indi's with the screw top, they are the only ones I use.

i have been catching fish on hoppers along banks with overhanging willows and moderate, riffly water since early August. granted i have probably only fished the lower yuba 5 or 6x since then, but it's been a very consistent pattern and always an exciting grab.

i participated in the SYRCL yuba river clean up two weeks ago and saw several salmon chilling in slow water down near Hammon Grove, so they are definitely in the system by now.
