Just back from two days on the Umpqua out of Elkton. I had a great time fishing with two different guides. The action was pretty much non-stop (100+) and just about all on top water poppers. I didn't get anything over 16", but it really didn't matter. Those fish hit the popper like they were trying to impress a Dorado.
The guides were a lot of fun and knew the river well. Each day we floated a different section. Lots of wildlife abound (Eagles, Osprey, Deer, River Otters).
If you think a trip like that would suit your fancy, then I recommend the following:
Lodging: River Inn Elkton... very clean and comfortable. Take your spouse along.

I am going back for winter steelhead, but I'll make a point to do the SMB thing every summer.
