that most American's favor allocation of water to AG over other uses, as reported in the SacBee. I'm of the belief that a national poll doesn't necessarily reflect reality since many of those surveyed do not live in drought stricken areas. However, there wasn't much difference in priorities expressed by those surveyed regardless of where they were from. The article appears relatively factual. Check it out for yourselves:

Link seems to be broken now, Darian.
I can understand the public's desire to use water for food though and that wouldn't seem to be dependent on where you live. Kind of depends on how the questions were posed, I suspect?
For example:
Do you favor using our limited water to grow food to eat?... Of course.
Do you favor using our limited water to grow cash crops that are predominantly for export?... Ummm wait a minute, what's going on here?
Take care,

I can't seem to find the article again, either. Oh well,.... I agree that polls/surveys are generally biased by the objectives of those who commission them. My health insurance provider is a prime example of that.
My main thought on referring to the article was that we, as a fly fishing community, need to recognize that we are a small number of advocates for water for fish while the rest of society doesn't necessarily agree. It's always an uphill battle (the old numbers game).
