So I'm hoping there are some DFG folks on this board that can provide some
insight into aerial planting in Norcal. Or lack thereof.

I have a 2014 fish study for Grouse Ridge area (pdf files round 100+ pages) that says
DFG is going to eradicate species that don't belong, i.e. Lahonton Cutts, Brook
trout etc) and replant with rainbows. Some of the lakes they will just leave
alone til the fish die out, and some they will eradicate by other means.
Some will be planted with catchables (I believe 7+ inches) and other with
smaller fry.

So my question is why isn't there public information on when this will occur?
Why does it appear so secret? I know they publicize some of the planting at
the big bait dunk lakes, but why none of the Grouse Ridge/Lakes Basin areas??

The also study addresses the yellow legged frog, flora fauna, etc etc.

I just don't get the 'apparent' secretive nature. There were a few lakes
in the Grouse area that were just an absolute blast to hit every year.
A couple had Kamloops rainbows and it was just a kick in the butt to
fight these fish and release them. However, they are dead now.

It's frustrating having hit over 10 lakes in the last few weeks (and close to 20
in the last year) with the float tube and see fish at maybe two of the lakes.
And even then, not many fish.

If anyone needs the study, PM me and I'll send it to you.

Thoughts/comments/opinions on the above?

Thanks,
EO

Check out the High Sierra Topix forum. There's a whole thread on fishless lakes. You'll need to register to view the fishing forum

Thanks, I'm on the forum already...will check 'er out.

Still hoping someone from DFG will weigh in. Especially regarding the
study that says planting is going to resume in Grouse Ridge.
