It seems there are no regulations in CA for smallmouth bass… I looked at the regs and didn't see anything. I think they fight better pound for pound than trout. Due to the drought it is fun to go out and hunt these mean bass. Is there no size limit and bag limit???

Just finished checking the regs and found:

Section 1.20, BLACK BASS: (a) General Reg's.
Includes Largemouth, Small Mouth, Red Eye and Spotted Bass.

Section 5.00, BLACK BASS: (a) Lakes and Reservoirs.
(1) 12" Minimum Size Limit.
(2) 5 fish Daily Bag Limit.
(b) Rivers, Streams and Private Ponds.
(b) Special Regulations.
Lists waters regulated individually.

I guess I didn't see section 1.20.. I always thought black bass meant largemouths. Mostly the question was about why I seem to see smaller fish over the past few years. I guess it is true with most species though. Thanks for figuring that out. I thought some people were out there taking as many fish as they could catch.
