Dropped by and saw Bob at Ted Fay in Dunsmir, can't say enough great things about him and the shop. It's easy to see why they've passed the test of time. After grabbing a few things and some key flies, he pointed us in the right direction on the McCloud. First time fishing it, and definitely had a couple hours of frustration looking for trails along the PCT and bushwacking through poison oak and around cliffs. Finally settled on a stretch of water and timed it right for the golden stone hatch...and it was phenomenal. By far the most beautiful river I've been on, truly a special place. Knocked down a bunch of smaller fish highsticking with a dry/dropper in the plunge pools, but scored some healthy 15-16" fish in the longer runs. Running a 11' 6x leader with a long downstream drift was the trick to get the take and not just the bump.
