Here's a link to an article in a Colusa newspaper about subsidence of land due to over reliance on groundwater by growers and others in that area. Check it out:

Just some perspective to point out that Ag water issues aren't confined to the San Joaquin Valley. Since legislation passed last year to regulate ground water extraction won't become effective until 2017, seems like it's just more of the same old, same old....

Unsustainable practices in action, I guess.

Hope they can turn it around, but it seems like when $$ is on the line there is but little choice but to extract maximum value from the resource.
