I just got an Outcast Pac 1200 2 man pontoon boat and I'm looking for an easy way to transport it with my Subaru Outback so that I dont have to break it down completely to put inside my car every time. The dimensions are 13' by 65". I was looking at getting this 4'x8' harbor freight utility trailer and then building a wood deck on top as an option:

Looking for any other suggestions that won't break the bank. Or if anyone has something for sale they think would work, let me know.

Here is a post from Rossflyguy of a PAC 1200 he had for sale last year and the trailer sure looks like the Harbor Freight model that you linked. I've read on line from people that actually own and use them and the responses I've seen are largely positive. I did read to check the bearings and grease before you use it for the first time and to opt for the model you linked with 12 inch tires at minimum.

I like the way the plywood is set up on the pictures in the link.

Hi,
If you search this site for "harbor freight" there will be some post for trailers.

I have a harbor freight 4X8 trailer to tow my 10' portabote on a Honda accord and I wrote in the link below.

My neighbor lady across the street just built the same one to make into a teardrop trailer but they seem pretty solid. Slap some plywood on top treat it and your golden.

2nd harbor freight. Perfect for the pontoon. New bearings are a good idea though

Hey I have actually been out with Rossflyguy when he still owned hi Pontoon and trailer. Let me tell you his trailer was sweet. The guy he bought it from made a box out of plywood so the boat sat up above the wheel wells, and the box was used to store oars and life jackets and such. It wasn't harbor freight, it was name brand, and it was a sweet setup.

I have a similar pontoon to yours, I have a Creek Company ODC 12 foot. I just bought a harbor freight trailer and I'll give you some pros and cons:

Trailer 48 x 96 folding : http://www.harborfreight.com/1195-lb-capacity-48-inch-x-96-inch-heavy-duty-foldable-utility-trailer-with-12-inch-wheels-90154.html

Pros:
-cheap, cheap, cheap with 25% off coupon it cost me 215 with tax.
-It folds up and stores with limited room.
-It is lightweight. Your subaru could tow it.

Cons:
-registration has been a pain thus far. AAA will not register it because it comes from China and they do not do initial registration of international origin vehicles. Went to DMV and got all the paper work, but had to go back to harbor freight for a signature. Have not had time to go back.
-Install time: don't sell yourself short here and think you can do it quicker. Took me about 3.5 hours without decking and I was using an impact gun. I would take twice that if you were only using hand tools. Not complicated by any means, just time consuming.
-Axle is cheap ( big surprise ), it will need to be replaced eventually but once I replace it it should be a great trailer!

It should work great for your pontoon, wouldn't be great for a fiberglass boat or anything really heavy. It says 1100 lbs, but if you were bouncing down dirt roads and 4x4 access roads i'd limit it to 250lbs.
