Pyramid is going through the normal May changes. The water is warming fast, Callabaetis are hatching, the spawn is all but over and fishing the lake requires a little different approach. To see this weeks full fishing report go to:

We had the pleasure of spending last weekend with the California Fly Fishers Unlimited fly club from Sacramento. One of the local fly clubs to the Keine's fly shop. We met 13 anglers at the Grand Sierra on Saturday morning of which 11 of them were on their first journey to Pryamid. What a journey it was. We started off Saturday with a morning clinic that included rigging and techniques. We were pleased to see many anglers showed up with the right flies they had gotten from Keine's before the trip including Maholo Midges and Nymphs. After getting everyone dialed in it did not take long for rods to start bending.

Nick F. from the club yelled out "fish on" and soon after he was into his backing. After about 10 minutes and some coaching by guide Chris Evison, Nick was able to get the fish into shallow water.

Nick landed 6 fish on Saturday all on a size 12 Maholo Midge and now is one of few anglers at Pyramid Lake that can say he is in the 15 pound catch and release club. Congratulations Nick!

Saturday was a great day overall. Sunday we got to the lake a little earlier so anglers could get in a full day and still make it back to Sacramento in the evening. Once again the morning bite was pretty good. The group once again had a very good day and everyone managed to catch at least one fish on Sunday. The highlight was from new fly angler Sheila C. who on her 2nd day EVER of fly fishing caught an amazing Pilot Peak strain Cutthroat sometime around mid morning. Sheila is hooked for life and still probably does not know how special her fish was weighing in right around 10 pounds.

All in all a great outing and it looks like this one will become an annual event. I would like to personally thank guide Chris Evison for his help on this trip. If you do not know Chris he is one of the best guides in the industry and especially at Pyramid lake. Chris is one of the original guides at the lake and has been for 13 years. He was the favorite of many of the club members including Nick and Sheila. Happy Birthday Chris as well!!!!
