Did my annual trip to Caples yesterday- beautiful day, especially with all the fresh snow. Bit of a challenge finding a place to safely get to the water with the tube so finally just put-in at the dam near the resort. Surprisingly slow morning- only two grabs, but one was a 30.5" Mac. Clear intermediate line and a large green bugger. The views alone are worth a trip. Vaughn

Hi Bill,

Not the best pic- but here it is... yea, I kept this one. I'm usually reluctant to admit keeping any fish, but I do occasionally. Had some last night- good stuff! Vaughn

Nice fish! Did he have anything in his belly?

I guess they have 'Mackinaw' or 'Lake Trout' in quite a few higher elevation lakes in California.

I think they are in Tahoe, Fallen Leaf and Donner lakes.

I heard in late fall, winter and early spring they are more shallow but then in the summer they go very deep, like 200 feet?

They are in the char family.

I have always heard they are very good eating too.

No- the tank was completely empty! Real skinny fish- shaped more like a Lingcod. Put one heck of a bend in the 6wt though... I heard DFG recently planted the lake... that should fatten'em up a bit. Vaughn
