I discovered some furled leaders in a catalog and some on a website...does anyone out here have any information regarding furled leaders? Good/bad? Pros/cons? You still need to tie a tippet on the end, but is it better than a traditional leader?

What were they made out of? I've used furled leaders made from many types of materials and overall they performed similarly but I find mono furled leaders have more suppleness and stretch. They have a number of advantages by improving your presentation, reducing surface drag and are more durable. They improve fishing all the way around. But if you don't have a friend that makes them or make them your own they can be much more expensive. Which catalog and websites?

There are few standard jig designs out there if you want to make your own. Here's some more detailed info on advantages and disadvantages: http://www.flyanglersonline.com/features/readerscast/rc185.php

John Quigley in Berkeley, California has both furled and twisted leaders.

I like furled leaders for wet fly fishing. They collect water and spray it off during the cast so they're not ideal for dry fly fishing.

The biggest downside to them is when you need to break off a snagged fly. When the furled leader is under lots of tension it twists. If the tension is then abruptly removed the leader twists up on itself. I've gotten the worst leader birds nests with them.
