Bike rod holders

I am looking to build or buy a rod holder for my mountain bike. Does any one have any suggestions, plans or products that might be useful?

Also,.... If the rod is 4 piece and you're transporting it in it's sock or without, it seems to me that it would fit into an arrow quiver, the type that has a loop on top to run a belt thru it. Easily tied to and vertically oriented on a bike frame....

Those would work but I am looking for a holder that wouldn't require me to break down my rod. I've seen some that are mounted on the rear of the bike pointing backward at an angle with PVC pipe. The trail I have in mind doesn't have a lot of trees that could snap a fly rod.

Just to clarify, the 9 foot 5 weight I'm toting is fully rigged, just broken into 4 pcs and in one of those rod/reel cases. Would that not work? If not, I've run a 2 piece rod/reel case upward at a 45 degree angle off of the bike rack

Hey Lynn,

Check out the Cogburn gear carrier: http://www.cogburnoutdoors.com/gear It's made with rods rifles and bows in mind. That's what I'm getting if and when the "budget committee" approves my fatbike purchase.

What I do now: place a pannier (Ortlieb) on the rear rack and put the fully rigged rod in reel down with the tip at about 60 degrees. Occasionally the tip will brush an overhanging branch, but I haven't had a breakage issue as I'm mainly fishing glass these days. I've ridden many miles this way over rough trails/roads and have yet to have the rod fall out.

I also have a 6 piece Reddington that I can strap to my handlebars--but it's a POS and I rarely fish with it.
