Recipes For The Wilderness

I hope this is the proper category for this post. I apologize if it isn't.

I'm looking for a couple of dinner recipes for the wilderness float trips I do. Weight is a factor, so it should be something where I can dehydrate the ingredients and then seal them for transport. And we have no ice out there, so dehydrated works best.

I already do beef stroganoff, spaghetti, tacos, chili, a couple of different fish meals (salmon or tempura char, for example), soups. Haven't had much luck with dehydrated chicken. Oh, and we usually do something fresh for the first night out.

I find fly fishers and backpackers are a great source for recipes. I appreciate any suggestions.

Do you have a dehydrator? I can highly recommend the Excalibur line of dehydrators. They are based in Sacramento. I've had mine for over 10 years. It works great!

If you have enough people in your group it might be worth buying some freeze-dried food items in bulk and building your own meals. Honeyville seems to get good reviews. Never tried their products myself.

I do have an Excalibur. I've had several dehydrators over the years. The Excalibur is far and away my favorite. It's amazing what you can do with a visit to the farmer's market, some good recipes, the Excalibur, and a Food Saver. Meals in the wilderness can now be just as good as at home.

Dehydrated backpacking foods are great! I really like the turkey tetrazzini by mountain house. There are some great desserts too!
