I'm moving to Brookings, Oregon in April, and I have been trying to get some information on fly fishing the Upper Chetco. I know that most of the fishing is done with hardware, but I have seen pictures of some mighty fine fly water.

Anyone out there drifted egg patterns or swung flies on this river? Thanks in advance.

ricards,
Here's a post I made on another forum -MZ,
As others have said, this can be a DIY river. Get the Smith/Chetco
Streamtime map. Driving up the north bank, Myrtle Grove, Icebox,
Loeb Park are good places with lots of casting room. Way up stream,
the road narrows and there are several bars with possibilities. My
favorite is Redwood. Road can be icy and dicey.
Unlike the Smith with its gear grabbing rocks, the Chetco has lots of
pea gravel and not near the stream gradient. A neat river. South of the river
along 101, Mattie's offers a great breakfast!

ricards,
Kiene's OnLine shop sells the StreamTime maps for $5 or so. Great tool; some info a bit outdated.
There are several other rivers you will want to check out: Pistol and the Elks.
Here's a place to check -

Near the top, select your region.
You're moving to a great place.
