KIENE'S FLY-CASTING and ON THE WATER CLINIC

Come join our instructors, Jeff Putnam and Dave Barbieri for our Fly-Casting and On The Water Fishing Clinic! It will be held every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month starting in February. We provide rods, reels, and fly line! You will need to bring or purchase:

1. Tapered Leader 9ft.2x
2. Tippet 3x and 4x
3. Indicator
4. Splitshot
5. Flies
6. Waders and Boots (Optional, but very nice to have
since it is winter time and we will be on the water).

For this beginner class, we will meet at Kiene's Fly Shop at 9am. While at the shop we will cover such fly-casting techniques as:

1. Pick Up and Lay Down Cast
2. False Cast
3. Direction Change
4. Distance and Accuracy
5. Knots

We will also discuss the equipment needed in order to have a productive day on the water.

We will then move to the "On The Water" portion of the class, which will take place on the American River at the Gristmill access. During this portion of the class we will discuss how to set up your leader, tippet, indicator, splitshot, flies, and how to transition from dry fly fishing (top water) to nymph fishing (subsurface). We will also cover:

1. Reading Water
2. Roll Casting
3. Overhead Cast (with weight)
4. Mending
5. Feeding Line

Mending and feeding line effectively are crucial to achieving a natural drift of your flies, and making fish eat! They also seem to be difficult for most people to perform EFFECTIVELY. We will cover this in depth.

The in shop Fly-Casting, and On The Water Fishing Clinic combined will be approximately 6 hours. The cost will be $100.00 per student. No more than 7 students per class. Payment is due at sign up. No refunds. Rescheduling possible at the next available opening. All students will receive a 10% coupon to use on the day of the class!
