I got a Sony a5000 mirrorless camera for Christmas (my old Pentax point & shoot is on it's last legs I think). I haven't done a heap of shooting with it yet but so far I've been pretty happy. Slightly large than my old Pentax but much better image quality. Better image stabilization, more range on functions, more control of settings. This one also stitches together multiple shots for a panorama shot. I think they're a pretty good replacement for older model point & shoots. Replace a full size DSLR? I don't think so.

I got the Sony A77 for my 25th wedding anniversary. I spent a lot of time researching it. Great reviews, great camera. I love it! No regrets.
