Back at it early this AM. Only fish of the morning, but a pretty one.

Another good one. If one were going to fish the rouge for the first time, what would you recommend?

Best time would be mid-October to mid-Nov for fall fish and mid-February to late March for winter fish. Fall run is about a 50/50 split on hatchery vs wild and the winter split is 85/15 with mostly wild. Both runs are about 8-9,000 fish with winter tending to be larger on average.

Nice fish and Pics, Lang!

That sure is a gem of a river. Great to see you doing well there.

Best,

How about swinging flies? I'm sure fall with Hiltons, Oct caddis stuff, but how about Feb-March? Intruders? Where do you start location wise (city, not exact spot :D )

In the fall your patterns will work and intruders are an excellent choice for winter. There is a ton of water from the base of Lost Creek Dam clear to Graves Creek, probably 60 river miles. A good source of current conditions would be Will's a Fly Shop in Ashland. He is a very nice guy and very knowledgeable.
