Rancho Leonero Resort, East Cape BCS, Mexico
A report right from the source:
The week of Sept. 6-13, 2014
The Environment:
Hurricane Norbert caused a lot of disruption, but also it really switched the fishing on. Before the storm, the water temps had stagnated at around 90 degrees. The storm dropped them to the 70s and they have slowly returned to the mid-80s.
However, as this report is being written, Hurricane Odile is thundering toward the tip of Baja with expected landfall later Sunday night.
The Bottom Line:

This was a “Shopping List” week. If anglers wanted a marlin, they caught a marlin;

if they wanted a wahoo, they went out and got a ’hoo. Same for tuna and dorado!
It was a definite 9 on the Rancho Leonero 1 to 10 scale.

Billfish – All the species are around and biting well, with sailfish probably the most predominant.

Yellowfin Tuna – The bite south of Los Frailes continues strong. These are good-sized fish from footballs to 80-pounders.
Dorado – Good bite all around the Lighthouse and scattered throughout the bay. Seek and ye shall find!
Roosterfish – Big fish all along the beaches and around the Lighthouse, as well as La Ribera and the Marina entrance.
Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch …

Hot, hot, hot … with amberjack, pompano, largo and jack crevalle bending every rod in sight!

Had a bad feeling about this one. Looks like she went up the west side of the Sierra Laguna and nicked at La Paz. A well vented heat witch for sure. Flooding damage will be the issue. LEW

Just got an email message from Jonathan who owns Tail Hunter. Odile is going over La Paz right now. The hotel La Concha is looking like a war zone as I'm sure most of the Baja Sur is. Part of his ceiling came down last night and he said it sounds like a subway tunnel with the train going through. A lot of palm trees are up rooted.
Bulla is out at Baja Joe's. Hopefully they are safe and out of harms way. I know with a lot of rain, Baja Joe's can have rivers running through the property. I tried calling Efren on the cell phone but nothing is working, hope all the captains and their families are OK

Follow the link to a real time webcam in Loreto, Baja Sur:

http://www.webcamsdemexico.com/webcam-loreto.html

Loreto is getting pounded right now. The webcam at Cabo San Lucas went off-line around 8 pm yesterday. WX looked bad earlier in the day. La Paz looked like things are settling down. No visible damage. Lots of wind but no flooding, people out walking on the Malecon, now. Normal traffic. La Ventana's on the edge of a large arroyo. Storm surge, rain and Flooding will be the issue out there.... MX1 is probably washed out between Cabo and East Cape and elsewhere.

Another named storm aimed at Baja??? A tropical storm named POLO has formed off the southern coast of MX with a projected storm track up the Pacific Coast of Baja. By the time it gets to Baja it's predicted to be a hurricane. They've already had MARIE, NORBERT and ODILE. Apparently the Baja webcams in Baja stopped recording yesterday. Lots of damage down there.

With about two months left in the hurricane season, doesn't seem like people in Baja can get a break.... :(
