Yep, it is back to 2 to 2-1/2 feet of visibility. Dang. Water is fishable, I hooked three in a hour or so (all small - none landed), but any wading deeper than your knees is tricky.
First two pictures are Thursday when the water was clearer
last three are today.
As Miss Emily Litell would say: Never Mind

Just heard a rumor from a reliable source that the water went off-color again this week-end.
Heading over to Ash Camp right now to check it out.

Water color has cleared up on the McCloud. Visibility is 5-6 ft which is it's normal glacial tint.
On the other hand the smoke has gotten real bad in the last 2-3 days. It is from the July and Happy Camp fires, I think (90,000+ acres combined). Wind is N-NW now and forecast to change direction on Tuesday, so it looks like we have a couple more days of smoke to deal with.

I read today that a mudslide and glacial melting have messed up the visibility on the mccloud. was planning a trip there the in mid october. can anybody comment on when it will be fishable again?

I was there a week or so ago it it had cleared up. Maybe another slide happened again, but like I said it was fine just a little while ago.

Stienstra is reporting on SFGate that a big glacial dam gave way and mud creek turned into a torrent wiping out bridges.

Yes, Another mudflow occurred Saturday afternoon. Much bigger than the last one. A quick google will find you many stories about it. No one has any idea when the river will be fishable again. I suspect it will be a long while.

The report on the Ted Fay Fly Shop's website has a link to a video that shows the mudslide that is pretty incredible. The size of the boulders rolling along through the mud flow are huge. Shows you how powerful Mother Nature can be...
