Its been mostly little guys or nothing at all for me lately on the lower american, so it was nice to finally have my efforts rewarded with a decent fish. Water was really off color, but I was able to fool this guy with a caddis pupa nymph. Can't wait for what the next couple months has in store.

Right on man! I've been going out two or three mornings a week and have a month long skunk going. My last fish on the A was in July. Been fishing Watt and Gristmill mostly.. Today fished the Effie Yeaw riffle, nothing. Glad to see someone getting something. Hopefully September will bring better numbers of fish.

That is a lovely fish......thanks.

I have fished these half-pounder Steelhead for over 50 years now.

Late August they will usually show up in schools of fresh ones from Watt Avenue down to Paradise Beach / River Park area.

Flow is 1,500 cfs which is very nice for wading.

That's definitely a nice solid fish, thick with good shoulders. Bill's right on about that area from Watt down to Paradise. I went to Sac State in the late 60's- early 70's and just about flunked out because of the riffles around Paradise. I'd go and fish early before going to classes but sometimes it was just TOOOOO GOOD and classes got put on the back burner. Half-pounders where never called half-pounders then. They were just called juvenile steelhead as I remember. And salmon were thick in there at times and they always took a lot longer to land and sure enough I'd miss more of my classes.

Eventually I got thrown out of Sac State and had to go and plead my case or go to Viet Nam. Nope, none of Nam for me so they put me back in on academic probation and I graduated with a BA in 1970, and got my teaching credential in 1971.

That first riffle below the H St. bridge and just upstream of the bend at Paradise were some great riffles for everything including shad too.

That first shot is chunky, beautiful fish! Congrats Ryan, and I bet you'll be dreaming well at night for awhile. Was she swung up or dead drifted?

Dead drifted under an indicator. But she took it at the end of the drift just as it started to swing.

Nice steelie!

Congrats to you. Sounds like fresh salmon are starting to trickle in as well. The AR is a cool river.

Best,

Nice fish!

Like Moose I've been skunked on the AR for about a month, and fishing pretty steady. Since about the end of the shad run I've got nothin. Glad to see someone land a nice one. And thanks for the tip Bill! Paradise Beach is my main spot, so I'll stick with it.
