Dear Friends and Supporters -

It is my pleasure to share with you the great news that the Wild Olympics will be featured during August on the television series This American Land, a nationwide PBS program. The segment spotlights the spectacular scenery of the Olympic Peninsula and features interviews with a number of our community members working to permanently protect ancient forests and salmon streams on Olympic National Forest as wilderness and Wild and Scenic Rivers.

In the piece, Port Townsend City Councilor Michelle Sandoval explains that people are drawn to the Peninsula for the outdoor recreation and stunning scenery, and stay because of the clean water and high quality of life. Bill Taylor of Taylor Shellfish Farms in Shelton describes the importance of this clean water to his Hood Canal oyster beds, calling it the "lifeblood" of his industry. John Lockwood, owner of Pygmy Boats in Port Townsend, says small manufacturers like him depend on our area's incredible recreation opportunities to stay afloat. Port Townsend fish biologist and Director of Northwest Watershed Institute Peter Bahls explains how Olympic Peninsula salmon runs are still recovering from 100 years of overfishing and heavy timber harvesting on the national forest. And retired logger Fred Rakevich of Elma says though he's traveled all over, the ancient forests and free-flowing rivers of the Wild Olympics remain "something we need to protect and cherish." The segment contains beautiful scenes of the Olympics, including spectacular video provided by Brazda Fly Fishing, Lateral Line Media and acclaimed local filmmaker John Gussman.

We are delighted that our beautiful corner of the world is highlighted in this nationally televised series. The many local voices featured showcase the broad local support for safeguarding our stunning landscape. We come from different backgrounds and interests and use our public land in various ways, but we find common ground in the desire to permanently protect our ancient forests and salmon streams just as they are as a legacy to future generations.

Please take a moment to watch the Video - it is short, beautiful and powerful. Then we hope that you will PLEASE SHARE it with your friends & family to help spread the word about this exciting campaign.
Thank you - as always - for your support. We can't do it without you.

Sincerely,
