Mud Creek just started dumping a lot of brown water into the McCloud.
As of 07/16/14 I would rate it unfishable.
Visibility is nil.
I suppose fish could still be caught but you can not see where you are wading.
I hope to post a couple of pics on the guide notes page of the ted fay shop site if I can get an OK from the photographers who took the pics.

edit:
Pic will be posted tomorrow on Ted Fay site

another edit:
report with pics on ted fay site guide notes page.
As others have commented, this is a natural event caused by hot weather and low snow pack.

They don't call it "Mud" Creek for nothing. :D

Is there an up stream lake/dam that would have been "dumped" for silt control?

I found this link with info about prior mud/debris flows from Mt. Shasta. They specifically comment on some that originate from Mud Creek and were big enough to color the Sacramento down in Redding (I'm assuming these are prior to Shasta dam being built.) Seems to be a relatively frequent happening? Not sure if the events reported are the same as what's going on this time, but interesting nonetheless.

Another article from PG&E seems to blame increases in glacial melting bringing in more ash due to low snow pack and warm temps.

Interesting, Dinky.

I was driving by Mt. Shasta last week and the mountain has very little snow on it this year. Makes sense that the mud is coming from the ash that is being uncovered there.

Best,
