My brother and I had our best outing yet on the Truckee last weekend (Friday evening through early Sunday afternoon), landing a combined total of 7 fish in the 18-22 inch range in the Hirschdale area, primarily on crayfish patterns (plus a dozen or two smaller). The best time was Saturday morning from 6am to 10am, when we caught 2/3 of these big boys (we camped nearby so we could fish early). Mornings were best (seemed to make a huge difference), evening was decent, the worst was afternoon. Other successful patterns included the G6 caddis, small beadhead Hare's Ear and dry Yellow Sally. That river is absolutely loaded with big fish, some in areas we least expected. If I go up again in the summer I will definitely camp overnight nearby again to hit the river as early as possible.

We got all the info we needed from the website of the great Matt Koles http://www.gilligansguideservice.com/blog/
