Wow – the last three weeks have been a blast up at Lake Almanor. We had close to 50 guests come up and fish with us while we were there. On the agenda were Tenkara Workshops, Lake Almanor Tours, Hex Tour at Lake Almanor and a last minute Trout School. It was a blast!!!

The Tenkara Workshops went off without a hitch. Everyone in the workshops learned a great deal about how they fish and made them better fly-fishers. They learned that position is everything and without position the correct drift can’t happen. It was a great day with lots of fish being caught and new skills learned.

The “Hex” hatch is always great; especially watching people see the huge bug for the first time. There was one gentlemen that couldn’t even fish – he just sat in his float tube and watched nymphs emerger into adults. “I was amazed by the mere size of the Hex”, he said. Others screamed with delight while landing big fish. Others had smiles of amazement on how hard the fish would grab their flies.
Big fish were lost, others pictured, but smiles were on everyone’s faces. It was a great time. The Lake Almanor Tour is more than just the hex – we explore all areas of the lake and the surrounding creeks and lakes. We use everything from Tenkara equipment to stripping the “I Lines” with big Hex Nymphs. It’s a fun and easy way to get to know the area. Oh, by the way, the tri-tip dinners were killers!! Our new dates for next year are already up on our website.

As you saw above we did something new this year. We did a Hex Tour at Lake Almanor. The first group was from the Santa Cruz Fly Fishermen’s Club led by Tim Loomis. It was a great tour. We took the group and toured the lake showing them all the access areas for the Hex. The partakers tied flies, rigged rods and feasted on a great dinner. Then we fished!!! Big fish and bigger smiles – especially when the dry flies where grabbed. A great tour which we have added to our tour lineup.

All in all it was a great month of fishing at Lake Almanor. We meet some terrific people, ate hardy, enjoyed some great spirits and landed some very memorable fish.

Now, for everything else that is going on. We have tons of tours, workshops and schools coming up for this coming Fall. We also have a few dates open for drifts on the Lower Sacramento and Feather Rivers. The tours coming up are the Lake Davis Tours and the Feather River Steelhead Tour. For the workshops we have Tenkara Workshops and Switch Rod Workshops. We also have two Steelhead Schools and our Switch & Spey Schools coming up in November. Lots of great trips coming up, come fish with us.
