I recently had the pleasure to spend two days on the Middle Fork of the American River with Rise Up River Trips. This was my first trip down this white water section of the Middle Fork after living my whole life in Sacramento. I am amazed at what a trophy brown trout fishery we have within an hour of Sacramento! If you have a copy of this month's California Fly Fisher, you can see one of the browns landed by Mikey Weir with Rise Up River Trips.

Our guides, Grady Garlough and Rob Hogg are both highly qualified in white water and excellent anglers. The first day's drift takes you down several class 4 rapids and you better have your act together! If you are looking for large numbers of fish, this isn't the trip for you. However, if you are looking for a trophy brown trout of a life time, you will get your shots. There are no guarantees, but we saw huge browns on both days. I managed one trophy brown in two days with several respectable browns and rainbows. Most people travel all over the world to search for fish that we have close to our region.

Nice going Terry! Looked like a epic time on the water to fish and cool down from the heat. Some friends and I floated the south fork one year and saw some big browns and bows, hard to reach spots unless you have good white water skills. Congrats on that brownie!

I think this is one of the best kept secrets in California.

These guys have been working on this for quite a while.

They were first white water guides who got into fly fishing.

I was going to head there for the 4th but opted out. I definitely wanna go there this summer. I've been reading a lot about the middle American. Most likely going to hoof it though.

Same here. Haven't been up in that area in many years, but would like to know about access to the "flats".

I was the very fortunate Kiene's Spring festival raffle winner for this trip. I have to say that is was one of the most fun outings I have ever been on. The combination of white water rafting and chucking large streamers into pocket water/banks. The first day, before Terry vacuumed up the toads, our guide Grady put us on some really nice browns. My largest was between 21-22".

This is a great trip for the adventurous. Great food. Professional and experienced guides - always felt safe. Check it out!
