Today is the first day of my last group. I was choppy to bumpy. The dorado are still there but the bait was harder to find. Had a few small rooster at the Boca del Alamo.
Don Memmer and his son flew from Hilo, HI to join me one week. I finally got to meet Don. We were talking about what's happening around the big Island. Looks like I'll have to plan a trip back to my home state.
Hopefully it lays down tomorrow so the group can venture to la Ventana, where we found bait and some bigger dorado.
I'm staying back the rest of the week and nursing a sore knee. Must of flared up from walking around La Paz yesterday morning. You know those 3 foot steps can do wonders on your knees and tendons. Maybe a little acupuncture is needed.
I'll report tomorrows findings

Jay, thanks for keeping the updates coming! Team Oregon (Derek, Eric, Dave, Craig & Liam and Cooper and I) can't wait to get down there this Sat! hard to sleep! sounds like ballyhoo are still the best bait to emulate? I tied a few more this afternoon, how do these look? they are about 8" long... anything else unique we need to bring/prepare for? Bummed we'll miss you, but stoked Don and Luke will be staying an extra week with us. Have you heard any issues with customs taxing more than 4 rod/reels? 9175

It's been a rough/tough start to the week. Been having some winds in the morning making the ride out to the fishing waters rough. The wind lays down for a little bit then picks up again. Hopefully today will be a turnaround for the group. I've been staying back for the past day and will be going out on Friday with the group to the beach. I'm having some acupuncture done the next couple days on my left knee. getting it done here where the price is good, $30.00 per treatment. 4x that in Fresno.
The flies look good except I would put a black nose on them with the tip red. The only time we've had any problem with getting equipment through customs was last week. But he was carrying 400 flies, 4 reels and lot's of extra spools.. Sounds like they've been asking everyone how many rods they have, just tell them 4. Looks to me like the Mexican customs are keying in on the fishermen
Enjoy your trip

dougisnow,.... Those are some good looking flies and will attract some strikes. However, it looks like you've made the same mistake I did when I left off a trailer hook inside the body/tail. If so, it's probably too late to tie one in but you can add a trailer by buying some rubber "SKIRT COLLARS" available at Bass fishing stores. Slide your trailer hook up the bend of the primary hook and follow with a "SKIRT COLLAR". The collar will keep the trailer hook from sliding during the fight with very active Dorado.
Hope you have a good trip.
