I saw many snakes the last time I was out and even ended up fishing a couple of feet from a well hidden rattler. He was on a rock next to the water and must have watched me cast for 10 minutes or more and never made a sound. I noticed him when I went to move closer to the water and when I looked down I saw his tail and then his head and body came in to focus. I quickly moved back a few steps reeled in my line and left. I thought that I was pretty good at spotting these guys but, after being so close and not noticing this one for that long I am now kind of interested in picking up some lightweight gaiters like the ones from Cabelas. Does anyone have experience with wearing these?

I wear sting ray gaiters fishing the Texas coast.
There are several manufacturers, buy a set that comes just below the knee (for comfort).
I also wear them quail hunting in South Texas as snake protection.
Duck hunting, as well, over waders.
Several manufacturers, do a search on sting ray gaiters or rattle snake gaiters.
Most snake strikes are between ankle and knee (on level ground).
