...For topwater bass!...

I spent the morning on a small 50 acre lake testing out my new toon. I brought the 3wt and 6wt. I spent the first couple hours tossing a little bugger into cover and catching countless, hard pulling slabs like this.

And a dozen or so of these

Great fun on the 3wt!

There was quite a crowd, tho it is Memorial day weekend. A high percentage of the boats were all choked in one little spot. I moved into within ear shot but there was no excitement. Maybe they were just "herding" like bait dunkers are known to do. Anyhoo, I rowed across the little lake to the tules on the east side. My new pontoon hybrid glided across nicely.

I secured a weedless, Crease Fly popper to a twisted leader system I made and chucked it with the 6wt into some heavy cover. it was 10am. Wham!!! A nice bass nailed it, but I lost him. I covered some more water, deep in cover and shortly after got another big explosion! This one came to hand.

And then another.

A mouth full of crease fly

I had a dozen more explosions and landed a few more like these.

The bite died and I went back to pestering the lil slabs for an hour. Then I grabbed the 6wt again and tied on a Frankenfly. First cast, SMACK!

All hail the Frankenfly!

I love a fish that will take weird experimental flies. this one is about 5" long and is tied Gurgler style with the foam back. The rest of the fly is kind of a magnum sized woolly bugger but with a bunch of rubber legs and two Schlappen feathers for a tail and of coarse... a weed guard.

All fish released...

A great day to be on the lake! I am quite pleased with my new little craft. The Creek Co. Voyager. It is very comfortable to sit in. I was stunned at how well it moves across the water with rowing. The oar handles kinda bump my knees if Im not paying attention. Theres a few more things to get tangled on than a basic float tube. The stripping apron isn't great. It held 1/2 my line 1/2 of the time. But otherwise it does exactly what I hoped. I can pick my fins up and glide over weeds to get back into the good bass water, then drop my feet and keep position. It handle wind quite well, and it did get windy.

Not just great bird pics, but fish pics aswell. It didn't look like you needed a blind with the fish pics.Great shots! My first fish on a fly was a red ear. Good fun.
Thanks for sharing.
