Last week i had a great day casting to active smallies, using a 3 wt. rod and mostly poppers. In almost every case I could see the fish take the fly. It was cool, and pretty kick back fishing from the skiff with a few beers.
Today was a different story, at a different place. We found them hugging the bottom, and it took me nearly 20 fly changes to find what they liked, all the while using T-200 line to get the to 20' level where they were holding. We got a lot of them, most 3# or better, but this one may be my personal best.
